GREAT MASTER / small boy

GREAT MASTER / small boy was published by Fair Acre Press on 4th June 2021. It tells several stories in strands - stories about motherhood, music, Beethoven, travel to Vienna and Bonn, and the resonances of our childhoods.

Multi-award winning poet, Andrew McMillan has endorsed the pamphlet with these words: "Perfectly tuned poems which show us that a love of music is always a journey through family, through memory, through geography, and towards love."

John Suchet of Classic FM fame, and author of a key biography of Beethoven, writes: "This collection of poems is almost as much about Vienna as it is about Beethoven, By recognising that Beethoven was moulded by the city in which he spent his entire adult life, Liz Lefroy not only manages to avoid the many clichés about Beethoven, but succeeds in creating a truer reflection of him in her poetry."

The book is dedicated to my son, Jonty Lefroy Watt. The poems were written around his 18th birthday, and published on his 21st. Cover design by his brother, Gabriel Watt.
